Scheduling Surgery
After
you have seen our surgeon and the decision to proceed with surgery
has been made, it will be time to schedule your procedure. You
will be given the option of calling our surgery scheduler at (651)
223-8180 when you are ready to proceed, or having our scheduler
call you if you need surgery on a more urgent basis. Our surgery
scheduler is an expert at coordinating schedules to meet the needs
of both patient and physician.
Regardless of whether you are having urgent surgery or elective
surgery, there are a number of guidelines you will need
to follow.
You will need to have a pre-operative physical exam
by your family doctor. This is required before you can have
any anesthesia, including local anesthesia.
You will be asked to stop any blood thinners for one
week prior to surgery. You need to verify this is medically
appropriate for you with your family doctor. Blood thinners include
drugs like Coumadin and Aspirin.
You will be unable to eat or drink anything for a certain
number of hours before surgery. Depending upon your particular
procedure, you may also have other restrictions and instructions.
If you will be going home the day of surgery, you will
not be allowed to drive. Additionally, a responsible adult needs
to stay with you the first night. There may be additional insructions
for you to follow, based on both the type of procedure you need
and your overall medical condition. Following all of your instructions
will ensure a safe surgical experience for you.
